中学3年生終了時までに、以下のようなエッセイを書けるようになることを目標とします。以下は本校の中学３年の生徒が実際に書いたエッセイです。He sprang up with his racket grasped firmly in his hand. I felt like I was standing alongside him on the court as my heart pounded with anticipation. The second I saw his racket hit the ball, it was already hurtling through the air aimed straight at his opponent’s blind spot. The tennis court was enveloped with cheers from the audience, and I was fascinated by his play. My favorite tennis player is Kei Nishikori, who is one of the athletes I admire the most.Kei Nishikori defeated Spain’s Rafael Nadal at the Rio De Janeiro Olympics on August 14th, and won the bronze medal, the first medal for a Japanese tennis player in 96 years. When I watched this match I was inspired by him, and his play style encouraged me to practice harder when I wasn’t able to focus on tennis practice. His opponent was Nadal, who is one of the big four in tennis, and the match lasted for almost three hours. I was amazed by their concentration and how they played their best until the end.After winning the first set, Nishikori was leading the second set by 5-2. However Nadal made a comeback and took the second set back. Before the final set, Nishikori took a break to change his clothes, long enough to irritate Nadal. This break helped Nishikori concentrate and mentally readjust himself, and he was able to win the last game which earned him a bronze medal. Even though the second set wasn’t so good for Nishikori, he didn’t get so irritated and kept his own pace. Since I always get irritated quickly during matches, this was a good lesson for me. I admire his calmness and his confidence during matches, even in bad situations. When Nishikori won the last point, I was very excited and also amazed by his strong and heavy shots. His fascinating match inspired me to practice harder and like tennis even more.
